Front Entries
Today the topic at hand is front entries. There is so much we can talk about here so for today’s blog lets talk about how to spruce up an entry. First off, having a clearly demarcated path to the front door is a good start. Ideally, if it is 3-4 ft wide that two people can walk down the path at the same time but if it is narrower, that is fine as long as it is a clear and well marked pathway. Having lights along the path so it is well lit at night is a great idea. I’ve certainly been to places where I have to really watch my step for fear of tripping at night so make it easy on yourselves and others by having the path well lit.
HAVE FUN WITH PAINT
Driving around beautiful Victoria, I just can’t help noticing a beautifully painted front door. There was a while there where a black door was the trend but now any colour goes. Do remember to prime the door with adhesion primer first. I like to use a satin or semi gloss paint to give a different finish than the rest of the house as it gives it just a bit of sheen. Having a point of entry accented in a contrast colour is a great way to revitalize a tired entry way..
DECOR FOR THE OUTDOORS
How about having a container or two at the front door? You could put one larger one on one side of the door or put one on either side of the door for a more symmetrical look. This again will invite guests into the house as it is visually appealing from the street. This also allows you to have seasonal plants which will really add to your outdoor décor.
MATCH YOUR METAL
Another way to beautify the front of your home is to update your house numbers. Having the numbers backlit will add a nice contemporary note to the façade whereas black iron scrolled numbers will be more traditional.
Having all the metals in the entrance way coordinate is a great way to get a cohesive look. So if your door handle is in oil rubbed bronze then also choose the door hinges, doorbell, a light fixture and mailbox in oil rubbed bronze.
